Thank Clawed

Two students pose with Clawed, AU's eagle mascot, on the Quad. Clawed holds a sign that looks like a student ID, while the two students hold cups with ice cream.
Thank Clawed It’s Wednesday! is a cherished tradition at American University that brings the campus community together and celebrates school spirit. Every Wednesday, Clawed inspires students, staff, faculty, and alumni to show their AU pride by wearing the school colors—Red, White, and Blue.

Anchored by Clawed, our spirited AU mascot, Thank Clawed It’s Wednesday transforms the Quad into a vibrant community gathering space each week from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Through themed activities, music, and collaborations with student organizations, departments, and campus offices, this initiative fosters consistent, low-barrier opportunities for students to build connection and pride in a casual, welcoming environment.

Each Wednesday, students, faculty, staff, and alumni are encouraged to wear AU colors—red, white, and blue—or AU-branded gear to show their Eagle pride. In appreciation, community members decked out in AU spirit gear will be eligible for:

  • A discounted lunch at TDR for just $11.99

  • A $3 “Thank Clawed It’s Wednesday” specialty drink at The Bridge Café

Thank Clawed It’s Wednesday!  will also include the Wednesday Farmers Market on the Quad, now running from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM! The market will feature a rotation of local vendors from across the DMV area, offering fresh goods, unique finds, and a lively atmosphere. You can view the weekly vendor lineup on the Mary Graydon Center website here.

Spring 2026

Shhh… the Eagle is hibernating!
After a brief winter hiatus to escape the cold, our favorite feathered friend and weekly quad event will be returning as the weather warms up. We'll kick off the spring series of Thank Clawed It's Wednesday on February 25th for Clawed's Birthday Bash. We are looking forward to being back on the Quad and another season of fun, connection, and school spirit!
