Greetings from Patty Caballero
Dear Alumni,
Summer is in full swing, and I hope you’ve found time to relax and recharge with family, friends, and loved ones. I also want to extend our thoughts and support to our alumni and AU families in Texas impacted by the devastating flash floods earlier this month. Please know that your fellow Eagles are here to connect with you if there is any way the alumni network can support you.
There continues to be much to celebrate at AU. Most recently, we are buzzing with the news of AU Model United Nations’s four-peat as the top-ranked team in North America by Best Delegate—the first team ever to do so! The team’s success is a reflection of the incredible passion and culture of global curiosity that defines our alma mater. I know this accomplishment will hold special resonance with so many Model UN alumni and supporters, and I am thrilled to see what further achievements await.
One of the surprising things I’ve learned since joining the Alumni Board is that AU owns Airlie—a stunning 300+ acre retreat in Warrenton, VA. Home to the historic Airlie House, guest rooms, and meeting facilities, Airlie has hosted world leaders, diplomats, and changemakers for over 50 years. It was even the site of the 1969 meeting where the idea for Earth Day was born.
To champion community and encourage alumni to experience this hidden gem, the AU Alumni Board is hosting its inaugural Summer Brunch at Airlie on August 2, 2025. Be sure to register to reserve your spot for the event, which will feature a farm-to-table brunch, panel discussion with AU Athletics leadership, and a raise-a-paddle fundraising opportunity to support current students.
Finally, I hope you’ll take part in one of our annual Summer Send-Offs scheduled for fifteen metropolitan areas around the country. These events offer new students and their families a warm welcome to the AU community, and your presence as alumni makes a powerful impression. I have attended several, and the spirit of gratitude and excitement from students and their families is always moving. Rep AU pride, share any advice about life on campus or pathways to careers, and network with fellow alumni in your region.
Best wishes,
Patty Caballero, SOC/BA ’91, Kogod/MBA ’00
