Bio
Brian McGowan is the Director of Faculty Affairs in the Baker School of Education. He is a nationally recognized scholar, speaker, and consultant whose work focuses on college student success, faculty development, and the advancement of equity-minded policies in higher education. His research interrogates how structures, policies, and institutional cultures shape the experiences of underrepresented students, faculty, and staff in higher education. With over two decades of experience as a tenured professor, academic administrator, and student affairs educator, Dr. McGowan has published two books and more than 40 peer-reviewed publications. He has secured over $2.4 million in external grant and contract funding from organizations including the National Science Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. A sought-after thought leader, his work has been recognized by multiple entities for its impact on research, policy, and practice. Beyond his scholarly work, Dr. McGowan has led transformative initiatives that advance teaching and learning through inclusive excellence, faculty development, and systemic change.
