Dr. Watkins is the Director of Faculty Initiatives and Engagement for the Center for Faculty Excellence and Senior Professorial Lecturer in School of Education at American University (AU) in Washington, DC. She is an alumna of Clark Atlanta University (BS-Chemistry and MS-Chemistry), University of Detroit Mercy (MBA), and the University of Delaware (Ph.D.-Science Education. She also works with faculty leaders to drive systemic change through the integration of evidence-based practices that support student success within their respective departments. Her research is deeply rooted in the experiences of underrepresented men and doctoral-level scientists and engineers, offering critical insights that contribute to both the academic literature and broader dialogues surrounding the preparation, development, and persistence of underrepresented students and professionals in science and engineering (S&E) fields. Through her work, Dr. Watkins seeks to dismantle barriers to success for underrepresented individuals in S&E disciplines and careers.
