Bio
Hung Nguyen is the Building Automation Technician Supervisor, where he supervises and manages the Building Automation Systems (BAS) team who are responsible for the software systems that Facilities Management uses to monitor and operate the critical building systems—including HVAC—and to optimize energy efficiency and occupant comfort and safety.
Hung has been at AU since 2023 and served previously as a BAS technician and programmer. Among his reasons for wanting to work at AU, Hung was impressed by the university’s commitment to higher education and sustainability, as well as its arboretum and central location in the nation’s capital. He is gratified that his work in building automation systems helps to support student life at AU.
Prior to joining AU, Hung worked as a BAS contractor for 10 years with various clients, including the University of Maryland. He also served for a decade as a facility engineer at Raytheon where he learned about, and garnered experience in facilities management. Hung earned his undergraduate degree from George Mason University, majoring in Management Information Systems.
Currently a resident of Northern Virginia, when not at work, Hung enjoys playing the stock market and spending time with his family—especially his three grandkids, whom he babysits on weekends. Born in Vietnam, Hung immigrated to America in 1975 at the age of eight. He recalls that he learned English mostly by watching Saturday morning cartoons. Not surprisingly, his favorite music also comes from the 1970s.
