Bio
Lorenzo Taylor II is the Energy Program Manager, where he conducts and operations to reduce American University’s energy consumption, utility costs, and carbon footprint. He started at AU in February 2026. One of the things he likes about AU is the active, yet peaceful campus atmosphere. One of the things that attracted him to the AU job was the variety of energy work AU has done.

He has a Bachelor's of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Maryland College Park and a Master's degree in Engineering Management from George Washington University.

Lorenzo has a long career in energy prior to joining AU. He started as a mechanical engineer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in their engineering and operations office. He then worked at Pepco Energy Services as a regional construction manager where he started worked on energy saving projects. He then transitioned to Anne Arundel County Public Schools as an energy conservation engineer and then worked at the Maryland Military Department before joining AU.

Outside of work, Lorenzo spends time with his wife of 22 years and their two young adult children. He enjoys cooking; listening to a variety of music including rap, gospel, R&B, rock and contemporary jazz; watching movies, and all kinds of sports. He also enjoys reading science-fiction from growing up as a Star Wars fan.
