The Sine Institute of Policy & Politics at American University is seeking highly-motivated, civic-minded students to serve as Sine Institute Stewards for the Fall 2025 semester.
About the Role
As a Sine Institute Steward, you will play a vital role in supporting the Institute’s high-impact events and programs. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in public policy, politics, communications, and event planning to gain meaningful experience, build professional skills, and engage with distinguished leaders and speakers.
Key Responsibilities
Support the planning, promotion, and execution of two Distinguished Lecturer Events, the Fall Solutions Summit, and other key Sine Institute programs and initiatives.
Event Support: Assist with the planning, setup, execution, and breakdown of two Distinguished Lecturer events and the Sine Solutions Summit; Provide day-of-event logistical support (e.g., guest check-in, speaker assistance, audience coordination, Q&A facilitation); Coordinate with AU departments and external vendors as needed.
Speaker & Guest Relations: Support Sine Institute staff in coordinating speaker logistics (arrival times, materials, presentation needs); Serve as a professional liaison between the Sine Institute and guests, ensuring a welcoming and organized experience.
Communications & Outreach: Promote events across campus and social channels in collaboration with the Sine Institute’s communications team; Distribute promotional materials and engage in outreach to student organizations and academic departments.
Program Administration: Support event registration, tracking RSVPs, and compiling post-event data and feedback; Assist in documentation, photography, and note-taking during events as needed.
Qualifications
Current undergraduate or graduate student at American University
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Dependable, proactive, and detail-oriented
Team-oriented with a professional demeanor
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to remain professional and composed in high-profile, fast-paced environments.
Interest in public policy, politics, or civic engagement.
Prior experience in event planning or hospitality is a plus but not required.
