Tamar Gutner Named 2026 SIS Scholar-Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to SIS Professor Tamar Gutner who has been named the SIS Scholar-Teacher of the Year for 2025-2026. At an on-campus celebration on April 22, last year's honoree Guy Ziv announced Dr. Gutner as the winner of this award, which honors an SIS faculty member for "outstanding and significant scholarly contributions to SIS and their discipline" as well as exceptional teaching. Dr. Gutner is on sabbatical this semester in Europe, so she accepted the award virtually.
A preeminent scholar of international organizations (IOs), Dr. Gutner's work has redefined how the field understands institutional performance and China’s strategic role in global governance. Her prolific recent output, including the landmark book The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank: China’s Multilateral Experiment (Oxford University Press, 2025) makes her a leading authority on the evolution of global economic governance.
Dr. Gutner is also an innovative educator who makes complex theoretical concepts accessible across undergraduate, graduate, and online programs. She wrote a leading textbook and her classroom demands analytical precision while fostering genuine enthusiasm. She is also known as a "teacher of teachers," mentoring faculty on pedagogical techniques and administrative leadership.
Congratulations, Dr. Gutner!
