PRSSA Brings Professional Network to Campus

Students looking to make industry connections flocked to the annual Mocktails with the Gurus event in February.

This story is adapted from a piece by SOC student and PRSSA Director of Chapter Development Adan Hernndez Nova.

Mocktails in hand, the American University Public Relations Student Society of America (AU PRSSA) chapter held its most successful signature networking event in recent years last month, with more than 60 guests, including professionals from across various PR industries, many of them AU alumni, in attendance.

The turnout was particularly impressive given that the event fell in the middle of midterms this year. But many AU students, and particularly those involved with the pre-professional PRSSA group, will always find time to invest in their careers .

Some of the "gurus" who took time out of their schedules to give back to the AU community include Bram Weinstein, Play by Play voice of the Washington Commanders and owner of Ampire Media; Anthony LaFauce, Managing Director at Clyde; Michael LaRosa, Partner at Ballard Partners; Sophie B. Myers, Account Executive at Fleishman Hillard; Erin Turner, Executive Vice President, JHA Health; Amy Clark, Executive Vice President of PR at the Brand Guild; Kristen Savoy, Director of Global Communications and Lifestyle Brands at Hilton; Max Marcucci, Principal at Oak Hill and Foretive; and Caleb Klemick, Senior Account Executive at Clyde.

Longtime PRSSA faculty adviser Gemma Puglisi and professional adviser LaFauce "truly mentored the chapter in making this event a reality," said Adan Hernandez Nova, director of PRSSA chapter development, conveying his thanks for their support.

He also extolled the efforts of the PRSSA executive board: Braden Miller, Asha Dalal, Jared Bowes, Celeste Earle, Valeria Redhead G., Olivia Pope, Osaevbie Samson, Sophia Ritchie, Taylor Adams, Zachary Austrager, Lilibet Shelly Kirwan, Amalia Martorell and Maryam Bint-Khaliaf. "Their countless hours of planning, dedication and on‑site support made this year’s event possible. I’m so thankful to work alongside such a brilliant and nonstop hardworking team," said Adan.
