Celebrating 20 Years: The Kovler Project Against Torture Marks Two Decades of Contributions
March 12th, 2025: It’s the Kovler Project Against Torture’s 20-year anniversary! This year, we celebrated by hosting an information session and alumni dinner on February 19th, 2025. Hosted by Professor Eduardo Bertoni, Faculty Director of the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and the Assistant Director of the Kovler Project, Marta Treviño-Leyva, our alumni came together to share a meal and speak with our most recent cohort about their experience in the Project and how their careers have evolved since.
The evening began with reflections from distinguished faculty members, including Professor Claudio Grossman, Dean Emeritus and Faculty Director; Professor Eduardo Bertoni, Director of the Center of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law; and Claudia Martin, Co-Director of the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. We were also honored to welcome renowned experts in the international human rights field, including Tania Reneaum, Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and Katya Salazar, the Executive Director of the Due Process of Law Foundation.
Our incredible alumni have pursued careers in a variety of fields, including in international strategic litigation in human rights, immigration assistance, federal government, prosecution, and many others. We are proud of their accomplishments and grateful for their commitment to connecting with current students, offering guidance, and supporting them as they explore professional opportunities in international human rights and beyond.
For 20 years, the Kovler Project Against Torture has provided students with experiential learning opportunities in the international human rights field. As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to continuing our mission of fostering the next generation of human rights advocates and making a lasting impact in the fight against torture.
