How did you decide on American University for your Early Decision application?

Gabriela: I really liked AU on paper, and I fell in love with it when I toured. At the end of the tour I turned to my parents and we all agreed that I should apply Early Decision—there was no question that this school was the perfect fit for me and it had everything I could possibly want. I like to say that AU is a giant melting pot of all the things I wanted in a school. My college advisor told me that I would get into AU even if I didn't apply ED, but it was a HUGE weight lifted off of my shoulders when I was accepted into my dream school before winter break of my senior year of high school.

Kylie: After touring American, I realized that this was the only place where I could truly envision myself growing into the person I aim to become. I loved how many resources AU had to offer, and what its proximity to so many government organizations could mean for internships and job opportunities. I also loved the idea of having a campus, but still having the downtown area accessible to me within minutes. To me, it felt like a perfect balance, and I am so thrilled with the decisions I have made!

Do you have any advice for the current seniors who are deciding whether to do Early Decision?

Gabriela: It sounds cliché, but if you know, you know. If you feel that way about AU, do it, you will not regret it.

Kylie: It’s okay to not be completely sure about what you want for your future. I would recommend Early Decision for those who love what AU has to offer, and could really see themselves thriving here, like I did! Choosing the right college often comes with a lot of pressure, but you’re not expected to make a “perfect” choice! If you’re looking for an environment that’s huge on fostering community, and connecting students to amazing opportunities and resources, then you’re in the right place and there’s always a place for you here at AU! 

Is there anything else you'd like to add about why you chose AU or how Early Decision improved your college experience?

Gabriela: It's a great place if you are unsatisfied with those around you who just don't seem to care as much about what's going on in our world as you do. Everyone here cares, at AU you will be surrounded by people who want to change the world just like you.

Kylie: Knowing where I would be going to college way before IB exams and graduation was so comforting, and it was a relief knowing I had already found my place. I’ve noticed such a growth in myself since starting college and I contribute a lot of that to the experiences AU has to offer!
